As usual, American Politicians are going around the country giving the American Public reasons why they should vote for them. Once again they are telling us that they and they only hold the solutions to America’s problems, and that we – the voting American Public – should bless them with our vote on this basis. However, what have they truly done?
Before we blessed him by putting him into office, Obama went throughout the country with banners flying telling us how he would put an end to wars and place us back on the road of economic prosperity. Like many politicians before him, he told us that there would be an ending to the old order that had placed us in a situation of near total economic collaspe. War, he added, would become pretty much a thing of the past. He acknowledged that the American People were war weary and wanted an end to the destruction of lives and a new economic reality that spelt better days ahead. Then candidate Obama, promised America that he would bring relief to its woes. He didn’t state that he would magically make them go away overnight, but that together things would improve significantly. Wars would begin to end and America would be on its way back to work.
Like Obama, the members of Congress and other politicians throughout the country promised the same thing. With their election to office would come a new dawn for the American people. They enthuasitically shouted that they too would put America back to work and end the wars that were killing and crippling thousands of young American men and women. Like their predessors, they promised much but what have they truly done?
Before, they even got into office, they started arguing over whose strategies or visions were best suited to bring America back to economic health and end its wars. Both sides – Republican and Democratic – immediately drew battle lines and with them, the enemy ceased being unemployment, war and a near total economic collaspe. Instead it became the unending bickering and maneuvering of each side to prove the other incompetant and undeserving of the trust and confidence of the American people. Like the Roman Emperor Nero, they “fiddled” around like spoiled brats, while America’s econmic house continued to burn to the ground.
Over three long years, they’ve constantly debated over one thing after another, all of which did nothing more than make the plight of the average American household worse. As usual, the only one who benefited from all these goings on, was big business. Wall Street had a ball and the American Public an empty ball park, full of empty promises that have yet to materialize. Think about it for a moment, the big shots who were responsible for America’s woes, were rewarded by being given billions of dollars of the American Taxpayers money to put their economic houses back into order. The American Taxpayer, himself, was pretty much given the boot. He was told to wait and that “prosperity was just around the corner,” while Job lost continued pretty much unabated and with it foreclosurers,
To add insult to injury, some of our Republicans friends, questioned the wisdom of extending unemployment benefits for those who lost their jobs and were unable to find new ones. Some even argued that the reason they couldn’t find jobs was because they had some how become lazy after having worked most their lives. As for the president, himself, he became locked in a preoccupation with passing health care reform and for a great while, appeared to be concern with nothing else.
As it stands now, the wars have not ended but have increased. Obama, who promised that he would put an end to this most destructive of past times, has instead increased them. Based on the claim that he was trying to save Lybian lives, the president led a war against Libya’s Muamar Gaddafi. He claimed that Gaddaffi was a tyrant who had to go and for the sake of saving Lybian lives, war was the only solution. He and his administration portryed Gaddaffi as some sort of mad man who had the Lybian people living in a political and ecomonic hell. Thus, with banners flying and the drums of war at maximum pitch, Mr. Obama spent hundreds of millions of dollars of the American Taxpayers money to wage a war against the Gaddafi regime. As if in some type of hypnotic trance, this he did at a time when the average American family was severely suffering from a lack of funds to purchase the most basic of items necessary for survival. This he did when more than ever, Americans were finding themselves having to resort to soup kitchens and food pantries for something to eat.
As for the war in Lybia, itself, instead of saving Lybian lives, upwards to 55,000 Lybian men, women, and chldren were reported killed as a result of it and its intrastructure was pretty much demolished in the process. One author stated that America and her Nato Allies bombed Lybia back into the Stone ages. To add to this, french lawyers are now suing the French Government for its role in it, claming that France intentionally targed civilian assets, among other offenses.
Similarly, where Lybia was once an economic power that provided billions of dollars of financial aid to African Countries throuhout the continent, it’s now a basket case that is desparately in need of financial assistance itself. And who is going to be called upon to help provide the monies needed to rebuild it (i.e. Lybia)? You got it right! It will be the Amerian taxpayer. Who ultimately stands to benefit from this war? The answer agan is simple: Wall Street and the boys. That group of rich folks, who Obama and the crew have stated are too big to fail. The average American public, however, is still headed toward economic hell and destruction. So much for political promises!
In the upcoming elections, American politicians will ask for your vote. Whether you give them it is a matter for your own concious and analysis. They say that the founding fathers of this country estabished it as a democracy to give average hard working citizens the right to govern their own affairs. Lets hope that in November of 2012, the average American voter does just that. Let’s hope that each person closely examines whether or not our politicians have truly performed adequately enough to deserve continued support or whether they are once again making us victim to political hype designed to make us believe that political smoke and mirrors constitute reality when in fact they’re nothing more than fantasy in fancy packaging.
